Railway Donation Scheme
The Railway Donation Scheme enables us to donate profits with Heritage Railways such as the North Norfolk Railway and M&GN Joint Railways Society. So not only will we be providing the RailWorks community with additional Rolling Stock for your enjoyment, we will also be donating profits to assist in the costs of overhauling or repairing some of the UK's most prestigious locomotives.
Future locomotives that are released at Oovee will have green bar across the image if it is part of this scheme. If you do not wish to purchase the addon but do wish to donate to North Nofolk Railway and/or M&GN Joint Railway Society then we will give you the option to do so sometime in the future.
BR Class 04 D2280
BR Class 04
D2280 spent much of its early years at Ipswich, where it was fitted with side skirts for operating over the quayside tramway lines and lines running along public roads. A small number of other Drewry locos were simarily treated for working on the Lowestoft and Gt Yarmouth tramways where they displaced steam locomotives.
Having lost its skirts, D2280 worked further afield, spending time at Weymouth. Due to a surplus of shunting locomotives, the loco was sold to the Ford motor company. Vacuum brakes were removed, the loco was repainted in blue and yellow with the famous Ford logo. The loco worked at the Dagenham plant until the 1990's when it was preserved - initially at Chappel and Wakes Colne, before being transferred to the North Norfolk Railway. In approximately 2004, the locomotive passed into the hands of the M&GNJRS who own a number of locomotives of significance to East Anglian railway heritage, namely the B12 61572, J15 no 65462, Wissington and most recently class 31 31207.
After a hard life, the locomotive needs an extensive overhaul to address wear to all mechanical components and the corrosion to the platework and superstructure. The power unit requires a re-build and vacuum brakes need to be re-instated. We hope that Oovee can help make this happen.
